EP-109 AFGHANISTAN: Why Joe Sheffer is starting a tour operator in Afghanistan

Afghanistan was said to be the crown jewel in Asian tourism back in the 1960's.  Incredible culture, food, people and diversity made it a must-do stop on the famous hippie trail. 

Since the 1980s Afghanistan is struggled with war, first with the Russians and then with Western powers.

Is now the time that travel resumes?  This week we are talking with Joe Sheffer, a journalist who fell in love with Afghanistan while stationed there reporting, and has now started a tour operator, Safarat.

Joe's goal is to change the perception of Afghanistan by bringing people to the country and enabling them to interact with regular Afghani's.

Guatemala is one of those places we hear a lot of. It's got everything!  History from the Mayans to the Spanish to today. Great weather, often called the Land of Eternal Spring because of the mild weather.  Incredible natural beauty, with volcanoes, mountains, lakes, ocean and charming cities.

EP-106 CAMINO DE SANTIAGO: Learn about this incredible pilgrimage and the different paths and ways to travel

This week we dive into the Camino.  This ancient pilgrim route that started all over Europe ended up in Santiago de Compostella, a town in Northern Spain.  While you may think the Camino is just one route, it's actually a variety of routes.

EP-104 PORTUGAL: Walking the length of Portugal from South to North

Is there a trip you've dreamt of doing for a long time?  This week we talk with Tomás Corôa, who since boyhood dreamt of getting outside and exploring his home country of Portugal.

A break in jobs meant he had 2 months free, and while having no experience in long-distance walking, he decided to walk the length of Portugal, from Sagres in the South to Caminha in the North.

This is not a signed route, and Tomás had to experiment to find the route some days, while other days he could follow more established routes like the Camino Portugués.

EP-103 PAKISTAN: Trekking and exploring the Karakoram

Pakistan is emerging as an adventure destination, and for good reason. The stunning beauty of the Karakoram is legendary, with enormous mountains, stunning valleys, varied culture and friendly locals.  This week we hear more about trekking in Pakistan from Umer Latif, the founder of Beyond the Valley, a boutique adventure company headquartered in Pakistan.

Learn about the Nangma Valley, trekking to K2 Basecamp, and exploring some of the incredible valleys in the Karakoram, like the Hunza Valley!

EP-102 KILIMANJARO: Everything you want to know about summiting Kilimanjaro

This week we learn about Mount Kilimanjaro, and rather than hear from a tourist, we're hearing from lead guide Julius Whitey of Ahsante Tours.  Julius tells us about the different routes, as well as the pros and cons of each. We also hear from Daniel James about how to combine your adventure summiting Kili with a safari or beach holiday.
